Thick, squat “ROLEX” with letters squarer than on other matte dials and the L and E set close together; heavy serifs on the lower text; flat lume. Accepted serial range 2.8–3.9M; original-owner examples also form a small batch at 5.05–5.19M. Dated example: case 2,889,687, c. 1971.
