Tank Cintrée
1921–?18 variants
Louis Cartier’s curved Tank, with a long case shaped to the wrist, elongated Roman numerals and a railway minute track curved at top and bottom. Early dials took Breguet hands, later ones sword hands. Fitting a movement into the curve was only possible with a very thin calibre from Edmond Jaeger; the caseback is flat and set into the case.
Vintage Cintrées have no reference number: “Tank Cintrée” is the model name collectors use, and pieces are identified by case and movement numbers. Made in three sizes set by the (7, 8 and 9 lignes) and in very small numbers; Cartier’s whole Tank output in 1932 was six watches.
