Baignoire (Cartier Paris)
1957–?1 variant
The original commercial Baignoire: a gold oval with parallel sides closed by soft curves, Roman numerals, blued hands and a sapphire cabochon crown. The name is usually read as French for “bathtub”, though Sotheby’s suggests the opera boxes of the same name.
No reference number on most early examples: identified by case number. Origins in a 1912 design; formal introduction 1957.
