Santos-Dumont 78097

The strap Santos-Dumont of the 1970s, one of the twelve shapes of the 1973 Louis Cartier collection: gold case with four screws to the back, enamel dial with Roman numerals and secret signature, cabochon crown and the Cartier 78-1 manual calibre (an ETA 2512). An example was photographed on Yves Saint Laurent’s wrist for Vogue in 1971.
Five-digit reference engraved on the caseback followed by a sequential serial, per HODINKEE’s 1970s guide. Dials of this era are signed “Paris” (sold through Paris and London) or “Swiss” (sold through New York).
