Datejust Ovettone 4467
1945–19496 variants
The first Datejust. A 36 mm gold Oyster case with a thin coin-edge bezel, date at 3 o’clock and sweep seconds; the big automatic movement needs a strongly domed caseback, hence the Italian nickname “Ovettone” (big egg). The dial does not say “Datejust” – the name was used in period advertising only.
About 1,000 made, according to Monochrome. The first 100 were sold by subscription and numbered between the lugs.
